Midsummer Weekend Festival

Midsummer Festival Galway

summer sun

Celebrate the long awaited arrival of summer with friends and family at Slieve Aughty Centre! During the weekend surrounding the summer solstice, we’ll be open every day for self-guided walks, homemade pancakes, coffee and tea, pony rides, face painting, arts and crafts, games and more.

Saturday June 22nd: family fun at Slieve Aughty's summer festival
Live traditional Irish music from 2-6pm
                                   Professional Storyteller at 8pm

It’s a special time of year, steeped in ancient custom and ritual since the beginning of time.  For a truly magical family experience, join us from sunset till the wee hours of the night Saturday or Sunday night as we revive the old Irish custom of lighting a bonfire, playing music, dancing, and even jumping over flames!  Organic food and drink will be available as well as lots of chances to try some quirky traditions from Ireland and beyond.  Best of all, we’ll take the children off your hands for a while for free, fully supervised fun activities such as arts and crafts, face painting and more.

Dressing up is not just for kids

Although almost everything is FREE, we do charge for food and a reduced fee of €10/child for pony rides.  Evening activities are by donation, with 10% of the proceeds going to the IPCC (Irish Peatland Conservation Council).

As 2013 is the year of The Gathering, we are hoping to bring out lots of families and friends for Midsummer Weekend.  We’ve also got special offers throughout the month of June to help you book your own gathering at Slieve Aughty?  Check out the special offers page for more information.
