Horse riding lessons

Slieve Aughty Riding Centre has been teaching both young and old to ride horses and ponies for more than 20 years.

Horse Riding Lessons are for:

Beginners and Advanced Riders
Ages 5-95
The Adventurous and Cautious
Girls and Boys
Anyone looking to be safe, have fun and learn to work with and ride horses

Riding Lessons are taught by qualified instructors and combine arena work with treks in the surrounding countryside. Lead rein lessons are available for very young riders.

Adults participate in a jumping lesson with a qualified instructor Slieve Aughty Riding Centre has over 30 horses and ponies to suit all riding levels.

Lessons are 1 to 2 hours in length, with 2 hour lessons including supervised instruction in grooming, horse handling and leading, tacking up / care of tack and riding.

Riding Lesson Rates:

Adults €30 each (5 lessons for €125)
Senior Mountain Trotters €25 (5 lessons for €100)
- advanced children/helpers ages 12 and up with jumping
Junior Mountain Trotters €30 each (5 lessons for €125)
Little Mountain Trotters €30 each (5 lessons for €125)
Lead Rein €18 (5 lessons for €75)
Private Lesson €35 (arena) or €45 (cross country)

Cross Country

a line of jumps on slieve aughty's cross country course Slieve Aughty's cross country course features a diversity of fences covering 25 acres of rolling terrain. It is an excellent schooling ground for young horses, inexperienced or nervous riders, or for preparation for the hunt or cross country competition. Jumps include a selection of ditches, walls, water complexes, drops, banks and logs, all with excellent footing even in wet weather. Best of all, cross country schooling can be combined with a relaxing or warm up trek through Kylebrack Forest and a home cooked meal or just tea and coffee after the water complex on slieve aughty's cross country course . If you would like to bring your own horse for some individual schooling, we have maps of the cross country and surrounding trails available.

Pony Clubs and Riding Clubs

Slieve Aughty Centre is the perfect place for pony and riding clubs to school for upcoming competitions, train with instructors, or gather for a day of relaxed trail riding together.

Cross country jumping lesson for pony club members Some or all of our facilities, including a 30 x 50 metre all weather sand arena, 45 fence cross country course and access to more than 50 miles of trails, can be rented for the day or multiple days.

Accommodation and food is available for groups of up to 50 people.

For a full day or overnight activity, rent a stable for your horse or pony.

Wash area is available for your horse or pony and horses can be hired.

Toilet and shower room available for humans to wash up before a home cooked meal.
